Extend the Life of your kitchen appliances, Part 1
I will be giving you a few kitchen appliance maintenance tips as well as a few tips on protecting and supporting your health in a series of blogs titled Extend the Life of Your Kitchen Appliances.  So, what does kitchen appliance maintenance and your health have in common? Read on to find out.

Did you know that if you vacuum your refrigerator's cooling coils twice a year you can extend its lifespan?  The condenser coils beneath or behind your refrigerator gather dust and debris causing it to work harder at keeping your food cold.  The coils are responsible for releasing the heat generated while the unit is running.  To  keep your refrigerator running at its best , unplug it, remove any cover protecting the coils and vacuum with a brush attachment.  You may also want to check to make sure that the door of your refrigerator is clean and seals tightly.  Dirty or leaking seals cause the refrigerator to run more often than needed, adding to the workload on the refrigerator's motor as well as using excess energy.

Your body is the same way.  Protecting your body through limiting exposure to harsh chemicals (dust), eating right (dirt), taking time to relax (unplugging) and exercising (tight seal) on a regular basis helps keep our body running smoothly so that we can continue to do both what needs to be done as well as what we enjoy doing.

Let's start with limiting your exposure to harsh chemicals.  Take a look at the ingredients in  personal care products that are in your bathroom and the cleaning products in your kitchen.  Everyday we put products on our skin, in our body, and breathe them in, but many of these products contain damaging chemicals.  The average woman is exposed to over 300 chemicals a day to her body through soaps, makeup, shampoo, hair products and cleaning supplies.  Eighty of these products are applied before breakfast.  Young Living essential oil singles have just one ingredient: Lemon, Oregano, Tangerine. That means no additives and no YUCK!

Our skin is not a impermeable shield.  It is our largest organ, but what we put on it and come into contact with gets absorbed into us ad then affects our other body systems.  It protects our body, but is highly permeable. It’s not only the largest organ, but also the thinnest. Only 1/10th of an inch separate our delicate organs from a multitude of harsh chemicals, many of which have estrogen-mimicking effects that can destroy all of our good health intentions.

I’d like to issue the  Three-Cabinet Challenge and encourage you to start flipping over the backs of bottles that you use in any three cabinets in your home, and then read the ingredients on these bottles.  If there is anything on there that you can’t pronounce, it’s time to start swapping it out.   Here is a partial list of items you want to try to avoid and why. Harsh chemicals in personal products.  I wouldn’t slather that stuff on my skin, cook with it, clean my counters with it and then place my food on that same spot.

You are the Gatekeeper of your health and that of your family's.  You can control what crosses the threshold of your doorway  into your house that affects the  health and safety of your family. You can say NO.   It’s time to start kicking chemicals out of you home.

It's time to start protecting and supporting your most cherished commodity, your health and wellness.
